This feature-length documentary focuses on the birth and rise of skateboarding in socialist Czechoslovakia in the 1970s and 1980s, told as a gripping tale of a young counterculture searching for freedom in a society stifled by the communist regime. Through contemporary interviews and unique archive footage, accompanied by the energizing punk vibe of the soundtrack (The Clash, Sex Pistols or Killing Joke), we get to know the true legends of Czechoslovak skateboarding and witness their endless party ride through the dullness and boredom of the last decades of socialism.

More than just another piece of "ostalgia", King Skate shows a special historical breed of generational revolt and social nonconformism. This film received the Czech Film Critics' Award and the Czech Lion Award for the Best Documentary of 2018.
