What is and where is home? Is home where your ancestors, your family or your community are? Is home where you are now, where you are heading to, or where you are going back to? What defines “home”? During her residency, Karolina Pernar tried to find out the answers to those questions by interviewing people living in Esch / Luxembourg. She also asked people to give her personal items that they think define them and made sculptures with those pieces in the shape of Monopoly houses. The reference to the game Monopoly is a criticism of the real estate market in Luxembourg. "The harsh real estate market does not care about the individual, it does not care who built those houses worth millions today and why. Everything is reduced to the price per m2. This brings us back to the initial question, if we consider a home to be a physical space, a structure, a house, do we have the right to own it", says Karolina Pernar.
Josep Fernandez Margalef decide to focus his artistic work on our city urban landscape. During his residency at the Squatfabrik, he visited and photographed a lot of different places in Esch looking for visual images to create a graphic atlas. After his observations, he was inspired by the orange vests that workers wear. “A piece of clothing linked with construction and risk, that really contrasts with an urban landscape”, says the artist. He also made wooden sculptures inspired by the metal columns of construction cranes, and relocate them within the landscape. These sculptures can be admired during the Get-Out.
