Alain Welter in Lisbon
UPDATE (05.05.2022) - Unexpected changes forced our team to find a new wall for Alain Welter's artistic intervention in Lisbon (scheduled from 2 to 13 May). Thanks to the quick mobilization of the Kulturfabrik, the Galeria de Arte Urbana and the Luxembourg Embassy in Portugal, the mural will finally be realized at R. da Bombarda 76A (1170-110 Lisbon, Portugal).

The Inauguration Event - hosted by the Embassy of Luxembourg in Portugal and the European Capital of Culture Esch2022 - will take place on May 11th.
From May 2 to 13 Alain Welter will create in Lisbon’s city center. The Luxembourgish artist will create a mural on the wall of a house located at the corner of Rua de São Paulo and Rua da Boavista. An artistic intervention made possible by a collaboration between the cultural center Kulturfabrik (Esch-sur-Alzette), the Galeria de Arte Urbana de la Câmara Municipal de Lisboa (Lisbon) and the Embassy of Luxembourg in Portugal with the support of Esch 2022 and POST Luxembourg. Alain Welter will be housed in the Polo Cultural das Gaivotas, one of the artists' residences managed by the City of Lisbon.
Well known in the Luxembourg art scene, Alain Welter studied illustration in Berlin. His training is reflected in his murals, which mix characters and typographic wordplay. The artist is also known for his "Make Koler Kooler" project, during which he created frescoes on fifteen facades in his native village of Kahler (in western Luxembourg). More recently, he collaborated with Esch2022, European Capital of Culture, by putting his style on buses and on a special tag for a famous luxembourgish beer company.
While Alain Welter will be in Lisbon, the Portuguese artist Mariana Duarte Santos will be in Esch-sur-Alzette, in Lallange District, to paint a participative mural in the framework of a collaboration between the asbl Escher Kulturnuecht, the Kulturfabrik, the C2DH (Centre for Contemporary and Digital History) of the University of Luxembourg for the Nuit de la Culture, a project that is been carried out this year as part of the European Capital of Culture, Esch2022. This urban art project in Lisbon will leave a "Luxembourgish imprint" on the Lisbon landscape, as well as strengthen the relationship between the two countries.
